Panthers Win Championship!!!

I am so proud of my Bren Bren's peewee football team!! They won the Long Beach Youth Football Championship!! WOOOOO HOOOOO GO PANTHERS!!! You can see by their faces just how proud these little fellas are!! It was a special win considering that the team we beat had beaten us twice before. These guys worked really hard for this championship and they deserved it. The score was 0-0 for most of the game until our quarterback, Nick, scored an awesome touchdown. Bren made some really good plays...including an awesome catch. Here he is in an action shot! Coach Joey and Coach Brian walking off the "winning field"!
GOOD JOB COACHES!!!! You both ROCK!!!

Bren, Chase, Nick and Jack! I love these guys!!
These boys had an wonderful season and what a great way to end it!!!
I also want to thank the Saints for a great season. They played really good too. Many of the players are friends of Bren's, he has played baseball with a bunch of them. It's hard playing against your friends but I guess that's all about sports. With that, I just want to say....GOOD GAME SAINTS!

The Broom Mystery Solved

My Broom is Standing Upright Alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday was a very crazy day. My neighbor called and told me that someone had received a text saying that "the planets are all aligned" and that if you stood a broom up it would stand upright all by itself. I thought she was pulling my leg when she told me hers had been standing alone all morning in the middle of her kitchen. I was in the car on my way to pick up Brady from school but could not wait to get home to try it out. When we got home and it actually worked, we were pretty amazed! The planets must really be aligned! We all posted pictures on our facebook pages informing all our "friends" in facebookland of this phenomenon.

Here is Jan's broom standing in her kitchen... And Jennifer's
And Amanda's
Quiet freaky to see. I googled "standing broom" and didn't find many concrete answers. CNN even did a story on the mystery of a broom standing alone at a consignment shop. One physic's college professor said that the broom bristles are strong enough to hold it up. Some said it was a ghost...or electricity...the vernal equinox...the list goes on...

I decided to do some investigaion on this "broom" mystery. I asked some of my "smartest" friends I know.

My neighbor, Mark, told me that the broom stands on its bristles because they’re stiff enough to support it with its center of gravity within the footprint of the bristles. There is nothing magical about that. Some people think you can stand an egg on its end during the vernal equinox. The day has nothing to do with it. Which means "no aligned planets".

I also emailed a very smart source who said that it has nothing to do with any gravitational pull but that it's about the very low center of balance on a broom. If you try to balance a broom on your finger - it's roughly only an inch up from the bristles. When you look at everything above that point, it SEEMS like a lot, but in reality, the base is wide and heavy, and the top is light and narrow.
So, there you have it folks...You science lesson for the day...Thanks Mark and Asia!:-)
Mystery Solved.............................................or is it?????????????? HEEEEEHEEEEEEEEHEEEEE (witches cackling)

Potato Soup

Easy Peasy Recipe

Since we have finally started getting more bouts of cold weather, I'll post a favorite soup recipe to help keep us warm!:-) This one is super easy and it is popular my family.

Potato Soup
Potatoes (cut in small chunks or squares)
1 Onion Sliced
1/2 Box of Velveeta (cut in chunks or squares)
1 Stick of Butter
1 Can Cream of Celery

Boil potatoes and onions until done. Add butter, Cream of Celery soup and Velveeta cheese. Stir occasionally until cheese and butter is melted.
Serve with cornbread.

On a sidenote, this recipe is also a great base for Crab Bisque. My sister, Wendy, discovered this after eating crab legs one night and wanting to do something with the leftover crabs. I sometimes add canned crab meat or frozen crab meat too. Serve with french bread.
ENJOY!

St. Catherine

Contrary to popular belief, I do not enjoy torturing my children.(not too much, anyway) I thought it might be a good idea to post a picture of the real St. Catherine, so that all my non-catholic family members will see just what I was working with. I know that Katie's head dress doesn't look just like hers, but if it would have, she would have not only blocked the people beside her, but also the whole row!! Perhaps I should have posted this picture with the original post, just so there would be no question as to what the hat should have looked like. Oh well, hopefully we were making memories that she can look back on fondly one day...maybe??
I think she made a great St. Catherine!

My Carline View

As much as I complain about having to go make my daily "rounds" picking up kids, I had an epiphany the other day. While waiting on Patrick to get out of school, I looked around and noticed just how beautiful my surroundings are. How fortunate am I to be able to have this view every day? Granted, I usually have kids fighting, crying, hanging on me or hanging out of the car...but if you can tune that out for just one minute...it's like a ZEN moment. How thankful I should be for my family, my wonderful life, my friends and how awesome it is living on the Coast. The other day someone posted on facebook a quote...something like "a truly happy person can enjoy the view on a traffic detour" and that is so true. So I am gonna slow down and enjoy the view, especially the ones I take for granted every day ............................Yall might need to remind me of this post the next time I am complaining!haha

So lucky to still have these trees after Katrina.

Halloween Mice

Before I put away my witches hat and boots, I have one final Halloween tutorial til next year. It was an awesome Halloween and thank all of you for celebrating it with me.

My Aunt Marion, my Mother-In-Law's sister, made these. I had a fit over them, they are the cutest thing...I had to hide some so that I could take some pics in the day time. Well, they were "hiding" in the microwave, (I know, I should have hid them in the fridge) and Katie made some pop corn and melted them some. She tried to put them back together. She did a good enough job so you can at least get the idea of how cute they are. Just a little out of shape...

Halloween Mice Recipe
You will need:
Cherry's (with stem)
Hershey Kisses
Sliced Almonds
Chocolate (I guess you could use bark chocolate or any kind you can melt)

Dip Cherry's in melted chocolate, put 2 almond slices as ears, stick Kiss on it...you may need to put a little choc between the almonds and Kiss to make it stick.
Easy recipe that is so cute!

Halloween 09

Well, BOO HOO! Halloween is over! Another great one to put down in our memory books! We had such a fun time. We went down the street to Jan's house. She had a fire pit in the middle of the drive way and all the mommies sat around the fire and gave out candy to the trick-or-treaters. The daddies took the kids treat-or-treating on a hay ride. Don't ask how I finagled Brian into doing that...I have no idea!! It started a couple of years ago and boy does it make my night so much easier! I just love dressing up and giving out candy and seeing everybody's costumes, so it works out well. (For me anyway!;-)

Me, the Happy Witch! Brendan was a Scary Ghoul. It was really quite horrifying to see bones running towards you in the darkness~
This costume suited him just fine, cause he ain't nothin' but bones! I can't pay that kid to eat!
